Since there are many varieties of the Catalan language, the Wiki Polandball in Catalan accepts all variants of the language as long as they are based on the normative(s).
These are those of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans for Catalan in Catalonia, the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua for Valencian and the Universitat de les Illes Balears for Balearic.
For the correct edition and creation of articles you have to use a language that is understandable for any Catalan speaker, but this depends on the type of page we are editing, that is why there is a guide on how to write articles in order to have quality editions:
General standard[modifica el codi]
In general, wiki articles can be written in any spelling (Catalan, Valencian, Balearic) as long as it complies with their regulations. We recommend avoiding "spanishisms" (words that look Catalan but are in fact borrowings from Spanish that are not normative) and errors, for this there are correction tools such as Softcatalà.
We will not criticize you for writing in your variant in international articles, you are free to write in Catalan, Valencian and Balearic, but try to follow these guidelines:
- Write normatively, do not write barbarisms (nonstandard words) or words not recognized by the normative.
- If the article is already written in a variant, it is better to continue writing it in its variant.
- It is an international article, try to write it in neutral Catalan/Valencian and without excessively dialectal words.
You also have to avoid certain typical Catalan mistakes: Don't confuse "per" with "per a", "estic" with "soc", "com" with "com a", don't forget "en" and "hi", don't use "lo neutre", etc.
Local articles[modifica el codi]
Articles dealing with places where Catalan/Valencian is spoken should be written in the corresponding variety. For example, Barcelonaball will be written in the Central Catalan variant, Palmaball will be in Balearic Majorcan and Valènciaball in Valencian.
Remember to use the correct verb forms (they change in Catalan, Valencian and Balearic, they can be corrected according to the variant in Softcatalà) and be free to express yourself in the variety without breaking rules.
Some examples of words that may vary according to the variety are espill/mirall, aixina/així, hui/avui, among others.
